MLP to invest in 120,000 sqm of solar panels
MLP Group has begun a project to build solar farms on the roofs of the buildings in its logistics parks. Solar panels are to be mounted in 10 logistics centres in Poland to cover a total area of around 120,000 sq m. The total output of the installations should come to 5.93 MWp. The project should be completed in the first quarter of 2023 and the developer has appointed Quanta Energy to do the work. For safety reasons, a special lightweight construction is to be used. According to MLP this will be the largest on-site project of its type in Poland for generating electricity. The power is mainly to be used for the developer’s own needs. As a result of the installation, the total power of renewable energy generation installations on MLP roofs will come to 6.3 MWp, which equates to 6 GWh of electricity a year. According to Piotr Grzybczak, the CEO of Quanta Energy, the profitability of investing in photovoltaics has recently grown considerably and now such an investment will break even after around 5-7 years with returns reaching as high as 20%. This is due to a 50-100 % rise in electricity prices across Europe (depending on the moment of purchase) and this results from several factors including the rising price of emitting CO2, which has recently increased to as much as EUR 82 per ton, as well as the unprecedented rise in the demand for energy seen in 2021.
