Accolade remediates land for industrial park in Konin
Warehouse investor Accolade has remediated the soil beneath its latest investment project. The development will be a 24,000 sq m industrial park in Konin including a building of almost 6,000 sqm that is already on the site and has been leased to Konpack. Another class A building is planned with an area of over 18,000 sq m. The remediation of the land on the 7-ha site and the construction of the park represent an investment of over EUR 15 million.
An area of 704 sq m has been remediated ex-situ and the land around a former filling station has been decontaminated of hydrocarbons. The soil exceeds norms for its heavy metal and hydrocarbon content. The project has also included the dismantling of a former grain elevator and the materials from the building have been recycled. The development is to be submitted for BREEAM certification and should receive a rating of 'Excellent'.
The complex is in the centre of Konin and has direct access to a rail line running between Moscow and Berlin. It is near the A2 motorway, which connects Warsaw with Łódź, Poznań and Germany. The nearby river Warta also provides the possibility of transporting goods via a network of canals from the region to the Baltic sea.
This is not the first time Accolade has undertaken to remediate the soil beneath an investment project on former industrial land. It has already worked on similar developments in Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, Częstochowa and Legnice. Currently, 43 pct of its portfolio comprises redeveloped former industrial land.
