Action opens 60,000 sq m warehouse in Bieruń

Discount retailer Action officially opened its new logistics and distribution centre in Bieruń near Tychy. The BTS centre was developed by Panattoni and comprises 60,800 sq m, of which 2,500 sq m is office and social space. The building was tailor made to meet the requirements of the chain and it includes a concrete mezzanine, two separate storage areas for hazardous materials with their own dedicated supply area, a battery charging station for 108 forklifts, containers for compressed recycled plastic and a special area for compressing recycled carboard boxes. The centre has been certified under BREEAM with a score of 77.1 pct and a rating of ‘Excellent’. The development uses the latest green solutions for its water management including for water retention and absorption into the grounds of the site, its energy usage, including the generation of electricity with solar panels, its reuse of materials and the 100 pct recycling of its waste. Action is a non-grocery discount retail chain from Holland. It sells goods under 14 categories including homeware and interiors, sports and office goods, fashion, cleaning products and tools.
