Amazon to open second Łódź centre
Online retailing giant Amazon has announced it is to open a 40,000 sqm logistics centre in Łódź to support its 'Fulfillment by Amazon' programme. The project will allow Amazon to widen the range of products it has on offer in order to meet growing demand from across Europe. This will be Amazon's second such warehouse facility in the Łódź area after having already opened a similar centre in the autumn of last year in the village of Pawlikowice just south of the city. The Pawlikowice centre was purchased by Chinese investor CGL Investment Holdings Corporation earlier this year.
Amazon has also announced that over 100 new jobs are to be created and already the company has begun recruiting engineering, logistics, IT and HR specialists for the development.
The online retailer first entered Poland in 2014 and since that time it has invested over PLN 14 bln in the country creating over 16,000 jobs. It now has centres in many locations across the country including in the village of Sady just west of Poznań, the village of Kołbaskowo near Szczecin, the village of Okmiany near Bolesławiec and in Sosnowiec. It also has two centres in the village of Bielany Wrocławskie just south of Wrocław and in February this year it opened its largest Polish centre of 210,000 sqm in Gliwice. This building was constructed by Panattoni and is owned by Savills Investment Management. In addition to its logistics and fulfilment centres the company also operates an R&D centre in Gdańsk and an Amazon Web Services centre in Warsaw.
